Olympic Games open

A four-hour long spectacular opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics began at 8 minutes past eight, on 08/08/08 under the slogan “One world, one dream”.
Over 20.000 people carried the Olympic torch from Olympia to Beijing.
As even the ordinary Chinese people had the honour of being torch-bearers, the torch, on its way to the National Stadium, also known as Bird’s Nest, was in the hands of farmers, workers, students...
2.008 percussionists accompanied the countdown, while 15.000 performers took part in the programme staged for the pleasure of over 90.000 strong attendance at the National Stadium.

Revival of 5.000 year old Chinese history and civilization in general and parade of athletes were viewed by approximately 91.000 spectators at the stadium and over four billion people worldwide.
The Olympic cauldron was lit in a spectacular fashion by the legendary Chinese gymnast Li Ning who boasts three gold, two silver and one bronze Olympic medals.
The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games ended with lighting of the Olympic flame. China welcomed to Beijing a record-breaking number of athletes with an epic spectacle. The Olympic team of Serbia has 92 representatives in eight individual and three team sports.
The Beijing Olympics, in which over 10.000 athletes from 204 countries will take part from today to 24 August, were opened by Chinese president Hu Jintao.
Serbia’s national flag was carried by the nation’s most successful athlete Jasna Šekarić, who said she was “extremely happy and proud” to have the honour and that “it would be nice if the winning streak of five Olympic medals continued in Beijing.”
