the 1984 Olympic champions

Yugoslavia won the first Olympic women’s handball title under the coach Josip Samaržija and his assistant Dušan Popmihajlov. Jasna Merdan-Kolar was the best scorer of the tournament with 48 goals and still holds the record of goals scored in a single Olympic match. In the match against the hosts, the USA, she scored 17 goals contributing significantly to the impressive victory of the “blues” (33:20).
Emilija Erčić, who sustained a serious injury in the bout with South Korea, missed the last match, and was hauled onto the victory stand with her leg in a cast.
