PARTNERS |
|
- The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
President Samaranch created the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
in 1983 to deal with the legal problems an athlete could face. Ten
years later the Court of Arbitration for Sport became an independent
body.
The purpose of the CAS is to rule out in all sports-related disputes
which are submitted to it through ordinary arbitration or appeal
against the decisions of sports bodies or organisations.
- The International Committee for Fair Play (CIFP)
The Olympic Charter promotes the pracitce of sport in a spirit of
friendship, solidarity and fair play as one of the fundamental
principles of the Olympic Movement. The spirit of fair play includes
observance of the rules, respect for the opponent and fight against
violence and unfair behaviour.
The International Committee for Fair Play (CIFP), established in
1963, promotes the principles of fair play, which are essential to
sport. Every year, the CIPF awards International Fair Play Prizes on
the basis of nominations of various organisations and the public to
athletes for their contribution to the promotion of fair play, be
they Olympic champions or beginners.
- The International Paralympic Committee (IPC)
The International Paralympic Committee is the governing
international organisation of top level sports for athletes with a
disability. The IPC organises, supervises and co-ordinates the
Paralympic Games and other multi-sport competitions on the top
level.
The International Paralympic Committee consists of 160 National
Paralympic Committees.
- The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
The International Olympic Committee organised a World Conference on
Doping in Sport in Lausanne from 2 to 4 February 1999.
In accordance with the conclusions of the Conference, the World
Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established on 10 November 1999, with
a task to promote and co-ordinate the fight against doping in
international sport.
- The World Olympians Association (WOA)
The World Olympians Association is an independent global
organisation representing Olympians. Juan Antonio Samaranch
initiated the foundation of this organisation, and its foundations
were set on the Centennial Olympic Congress of the IOC held in Paris
in 1994.
The World Olympians Association was established in order to involve
nearly 100,000 Olympians worldwide into the activities of the
Olympic Movement; to promote the Olympic principles and the
importance of the education of athletes; to fight against doping,
violence and intolerance in sport; to support diversity and equality
in sport and sports management, and to exercise the Olympians’
rights and enable their participation in humanitarian programmes.
The patron of the WOA is Juan Antonio Samaranch (Spain), the
honorary president Jacques Rogge (Belgium), and the president Pal
Schmitt (Hungary).
